Is Ignorance Really Bliss?

You will always have racist/prejudiced/hateful people in the world. No matter how much a group of people will try to prove themselves against a stereotype or how much they will try to teach people about themselves, their beliefs, and their culture, there will always be that one group of ignorant individuals that refuse to accept it.There will always be that one Caucasian that abhors African Americans. Or that one U.S. veteran who cannot stand the Japanese. Or that one Black panther that hates the White man. Or that one man who thinks that women should stay at home and cook and clean. Or that one group of people who think that Native American Indians should go back to where they came from. Or the group of people who think that all Mexican immigrants should learn to speak English.

And while most racist bigots keep their thoughts to themselves and only express it to certain people, you still have your fair share that explicitly state and talk about how much they hate a group of people.

Most of, if not all, the time, these thoughts and opinions sound extremely ignorant and only show the lack of education people are willing to seek for themselves because they are so blinded by their hateful thoughts.

The latest act of hate: A Church in Gainesville, Florida is planning to burn the Qu'ran, the holy book of Islam, on the 9th anniversary of September 11. They are honoring and remembering the victims of 9/11 by burning the holy book and declaring Islam, to be "religion of the devil".

(click on the picture for the full story)

I dont know how many times that Muslims will have to say time and time again, that the acts that were carried out on September 11th were not what Islam teaches. I dont know how many times Muslims have to defend themselves because of a horrendous act that was carried out by a group of people that claimed to be Muslims and were following what Islam told them to. I dont know how many times Muslims will have to say that what happened on 9/11 had nothing to do with Islam. I dont know how many times Muslilms will have to face the backlash of the acts that were carried out that day. I dont know when the world will accept Islam as a religion of peace and the actions of Muslims do not necessarily reflect the teachings of Islam.

I do know that a time should come where Muslims should stop having to do/say these things. And the rest of the world, the non-Muslims, should take the initiative and go out and learn these things on their own, so they can truly be able to understand the practices of Islam and what it really teaches.

Wow! Subhanallah so true! It might just take that group of non-Muslims to figure it out for themselves... But I also feel that we, as Muslims, shouldn't give up in trying to show them the truth about Islam.

AMEN!! Oh my goodnesss, this was the perfect way to say this. I can't believe that people are so ignorant that they think it is acceptable for them to burn the Qu'ran. What would be the reaction if people were planning on burning the bible? If people don't think that's acceptable, then burning any religious books is also unacceptable.

As white Americans we expect African Americans to forgive our ancestors for kidnapping their ancestors, enslaving them, making them work for free, beat them and often kill them. If we expect others to forgive us for our egregious acts, we need to be forgiving of others.

9/11 and slavery were committed by radicals in a group. I am not trying to say that they are the same, but no "group" of people do not have some history of being unkind to others.

It is unspeakable that Muslims and their faith are still paying for the radicals that have nothing to do with the people or religion.

I was so moved by what you wrote I had to add something to my blog about it. Thanks for bringing it to our attention.

I'm speechless. While reading the article, you can just tell how ridiculous these people sound. I know one thing, when I read or hear about things like that, it just makes me appreciate, Alhamdulillah, the knowledge and etiquette Islam teaches us.

Alhamdulillah. People like that sound foolish, let us continue to behave in an upright, respectful, and educating manner because we are not the foolish ones, Insha'Allah.

In such position my answer is Hell No!

Dear C.A unfortunately; this life is full of insane & superficial people. Don’t bother yourself thinking what they think of when the situation is outta your control. Sometimes antipathy blinded people’s eyes. Besides people look at things from different direction and here is the point. Just be proud of our great and global Islam and throw the whole crap off.
It really hurts me when I see the Holy Quran getting burned over and over again during every year and no can cease them. They don’t consider us like human beings so we have rights that must be taken and lines that must not be surpassed.
The only thing we can do it representing Islam in such great way just like our beloved prophet Mohammed PBUH showed us. We are teaching them by our great and descent actions. We represent the civilest religion and they are showing us how much ignorant and superficial they are!
Have a lovely day

Great post!

The video was just... hilarious actually. I can't believe the pastor truly stood by what he was saying!! It's absolutely ridiculous.

I hope that one day we're all able to live in tolerance and peace, regardless of our differences in practice and belief.

I accidentally posted this on another post, so I am re-posting it to make sure that you see it!

You are so right, I need to write them the letter anyways. And so I did. I am really heated about this so I created a website where anyone can share positive stories of Muslims and have it at least out there that we are not going to let this happen by being passive bystanders. Please check it out!

sometimes it's so hard for me to understand how people can do such things. I really like how you brought up the issue. When I heard about the church on the news, I just kept thinking, wow, I wonder how people are going to react to this? I pray a million times over that people react peacefully.

I have a better understanding of Islam because of my Muslim boyfriend. I don't "get" why they do what they do in the name of their religion but I respect his values and try not to impose my Christian beliefs on him. On the issue of burning the Quran, why burn it and symbolize hatred when a memorial can be built to remember all the heroes of 9/11? Burning the Quran will not prove or solve anything.
