Do You Believe?

I know not everyone out there agrees with me, but I do believe in  God. I believe that He exists.

Maybe it's selfish but I need Him to exist.

Aside from all the signs of God out there {which I also believed in before I found out that I needed Him}, I think He exists because I need Him to be there for me. I need to know that someone out there is watching over me and has my back.

Maybe some of you don't agree, which is totally fine. I'm just letting you know why I think He exists.

If something goes wrong in my life, I try to remind myself that He's there for me. And that He controls everything that goes on and that it's His will. That what happens to me is probably a test. And His existence gives me hope that things will get better. That's why I need Him there. If He isn't there, then I don't think I could have hope. And without hope I don't think I could be sane. I get a little too emotional and I'm the sensitive spazzy type, so I kind of need this.

Anyways that's all for now. I just wrote this up because I was thinking about it and want to know if you believe in God or not and more importantly why? I know to some it might be a touchy subject, but please, no debates. I look forward to all the answers out there. :)

Assalamu'alaikum!

Subhanallah, I was just having this conversation with the two tweens in my halaqa. I told them it may be difficult to fathom our own understanding of Allah (swt), but many of us may not even know how deeply we do believe in God.

Once I was at a lecture and a shaikh was talking about a very interesting situation. He was on the plane reading Qur'an or studying Islam and he got into a conversation with the man sitting next to him. The man told him he was an athiest and didn't believe in God. So the shaikh respected him and held a light conversation with him.

After a few hours they hit very heavy turbulance. He said it was pretty scary and all of a sudden he heard the man sitting next to him scream out, "Oh God, help me." Subhanallah. It kind of goes along with your point of this need for a God to be out there for us. We need Him, whether we are aware of it or not, but He is our hope.

May Allah (swt) guide us all on the straight path and increase our Iman. Ameen.

:) i think it's important to truly be confident in your beliefs, regardless of their manifestations in your personal life. :)

I do believe in God. I wasn't brought up in a very religious home, but I always knew God existed. I've felt His presence in my life throughout my entire life. There have been so many instances where I knew that I survived only because of His grace and mercy.

I believe in God because I believe in love. I believe in the power of love and the power of His love. Whenever I feel distant from God, I know it's because I've moved. I've let my own stubborn wants take over.

I can't NOT believe. I've tried. My faith journey has been crazy...yet I've always believed. I've always believed in the same one God.

I need Allah to exist too because life is hard and I keep reminding myself that after hardship there is ease

Oh!Yes God exists. But,for most of my life I was 50/50 about if He really existed, wanting Him to desperately to,but doubting. Now I "Know" He exists and I want to tell it to the whole universe. It makes me so happy that He exists. And He loves us so much even the Pakistani woman that killed her 2 little children because they were Autistic, and Marvin http://peanutbutterandpickles.blogspot.com/ is mildly Autistic and my favorite blogger,he has a beautiful mind,I like the movie too by the title too.God made him so special.

wow..

saba, thats exactly like that saying, "there's no atheists on a shinking ship". case in point.

irendi, that is so so so beautiful and sums up how i feel about God exactly.. love. i am happy you found this despite not being brought up with it!!!

my thoughts:

its an amazingly wonderful paradox FU that yes, you DO need God. but NO it doesn't make you selfish. on the contrary saying that you need HIM and knowing He doesnt need you, and worshiping him because you need to.. becomes this amazing thing.. that's humility, not selfishness. and brings His love even more :)

on the other hand.. atheism is one or both of these: selfishness and arrogance.e.g.there are 2 main atheist arguments against God
1) "there is no god because where was he when my mother died from cancer [insert tragic circumstance]. where was he when i asked him for something i want/needed?" = selfishness "waa why me"

2) "there is no god because i cannot see, hear, smell, touch, feel or taste Him. humans have no need for god due to our superior intelectual capacity" = arrogance..
as if all the complexities of life that ALLOW you to use your senses and discover science are not god-given??

and lastly.. this russian guy sitting next to me literally takes a cigarette break EVERY half hour. but we think praying 5 times a day is too much?? so many things we are addicted to and revolve our lives around but don't have time for God.. what more proof do I need that i have the fullest capacity to revolve my life around worship if i can conceivably go outside and smoke a cigarette 40 times a day without anyone minding??
we gotta wake up

Asalaamu Alaikum

I can't remember a time I didn't believe in God both as a Christian and a Muslim. But I never believed in the trinity so I guess I was always a muslim at heart, just didn't know what to call it. :)

My thoughts are those of the post. Even in my earlier non-religious days, I always knew God watched my actions and that without Him I wouldn't have been able to survive.

I believe in a higher power, in a God. Why not? You only need to look at yourself in the mirror to realize that there is a supreme power that put you here.

I've often wondered- what do people do who DON'T believe in God? Who do they talk to? How can they get through even one day thinking there's no one in charge of this crazy planet?

I believe in God because the world is to miraculous to have just happened. I find great comfort in the fact that I can ask for His help and guidance to point me in the right direction.

However, I have very close family and friends that don't and they find other reasons to act with kindness and charity. In my opinion, what really matters is how you live this life and how you treat others. There are many that "believe in God" but don't treat others with respect and kindness.

I really loved reading this post, it reminded me how I've felt throughout many times in my life. I think everyone believes in Allah (swt) since everyone has the Fitrah. It's just that I think people deny it within themselves, out of fear and listening to the Shaitaan.

Great post
Thanks deeply for this:)
First of all I'm proud to be a slave of Allah the Almighty.
There are plenty of evidences imply that there is only one creator for this great universe!
People see how great universe is but some forget saying how great is the creator of this universe!
May Allah bless and protect you.
Thanks again for your thoughts Falling :)

You are so right, I need to write them the letter anyways. And so I did. I am really heated about this so I created a website where anyone can share positive stories of Muslims and have it at least out there that we are not going to let this happen by being passive bystanders. Please check it out!

Mrs. Cullen is the best name eva :)

Also "Saba", "God help me" and phrases like that are just deeply engraved in speech. It does not indicate a subconsious need for God. Many people say for example OMG, yet they dont believe in God.
