My two nieces: Myra and Sue
My nieces love dressing up . One day Sue was wearing my knee high boots, a collared button down and hijab and said "Look Khala (Aunt), I'm you."
The other one, Myra, likes to dress up like dad.
I'm surprised they sat still for this picture.
They look cool though, don't they? LOL.
They haven't started to wear the hijab yet. My sisters just wanted to dress them up.
Anyways, a lot of Muslim parents have their daughters wear the hijab when they are young.Technically we are supposed to start wearing it when we hit puberty which is around 12,13,14 etc.
It's not obligatory before that.
People have different opinions on this---whether parents should have their daughters wear hijab at such a young age.
Some think: Too young.
Others say: Younger the better.
I say: Let the kid decide.
What do you say?

My opinion is that your nieces are adorable, look at those giant sunglasses that are eating their tiny little faces!!!
May I ask, without being disrespectful, the reason the hijab is worn? Is it for modesty, as I've been led to believe?

MashaAllah they look SOOOO cute!!! Hey I don't wear a hijab yet, and it's a constant inward struggle..but I agree, don't force anyone to do anything and they should decide for themselves...provided they dress decently at the same time of course =P

I've never worn one so I really couldn't tell you at what age I would like to start wearing them. But this picture is sort of cute.

Once a girl begins to wear the hijab can she decide to stop and wait until puberty? Or if she begins should she continue?
One of my daughter's friends used to wear it out when she was young when she felt nervous. Which makes total sense to me.

I dunno what to think. I'm so conflicted. My husband thinks it's so cute when little girls wear it and wouldn't mind starting our daughters off young but I on the other hand really want them to choose to wear it on their own. I want them to love wearing it, to fully understand, respect its meaning....like how my parents did with me.
I guess I'll only find out when I have daughters, Insha'Allah. :)
Its kind of interesting - as a muslim boy - who doesn't obviously look muslim(i'm from Africa-originally)- the difference in experiencing islam compared and contrasted to my sister who wears the hijab.Its probably substantially easier - though being black in America does give you a window - I still can't imagine that whole world.
I personally think that its best when someone makes the choice for themselves because forcing anyone to do anything really never sticks -- when they grow older they'll lose it and everyone is disappointed -- PARENTS! LET YOUR KIDS CHOOSE!

Heckety: A girl can choose to not wear it at any time in her life. Depends on the person. Of course before puberty if a girl chooses to not wear it, it's especially okay because it has not been made obligatory on her yet. But after puberty if a girl begins to wear it and decides to take it off, it is frowned upon, to say the least.

i think the kid should decide. and it should be explained why we where hijab, and that's because God asked us to, and it's just a reflection of my love for God.

Mashallah they are so cute and look lovely with hejabs and big sunglasses. May Allah protect them.
Well… in Islam we all know that we girls must veil when they hit the puberty. It's not a thing we can have a choice in it but its something compulsory. Hence it’s better to let girls love to veil by selling them pretty scarves with colors they love. And when they ask to be veiled we should not say no girl you are still young. Believe me they look pretty even when they are veiled ^^.

I think I commented on this but maybe I didn't. I am going to start with putting hijab on Sue when she starts school so she can get comfortable with the idea. she is very stubborn as you know so we'll see how that goes.
